Building Update 1 - 6/24/2014

We are about to enter into a very exciting time for the Blue Earth County Historical Society. As of July 1, 2014 the entire building will be ours. Here are some of our current plans for the building.

One of the biggest changes will be to move the main entrance to the Warren Street entrance instead of the current Cherry Street Door. First, we will begin with cleaning, painting and light maintenance work in the lower level, including opening the second stairwell between the upper and lower levels.

The Warren Street entrance will provide more parking for BECHS patrons as well as provide a handicap accessible door, something we don’t currently have. The gift shop will move to the lower level and we will now have more space to display Marian Anderson Fine Art Prints. Starting in August, BECHS will also be hosting various traveling exhibits over the next two years and they will be available to the public through this main entrance as well. By moving the Museum Gift Shop to the lower level, this opens up more exhibit space in what is currently the gift shop.

These are just some of the changes coming, but they won’t happen overnight and we need your help to make it possible. If you would like to help with some of our light construction, please contact Jessica. Also, now is the time to become a member or renew your support. You could also help financially by making a donation on our donation page and specifying your donation is for the “Building Fund” in the comment box.  If you have any questions about the building expansion, please contact Jessica at 507-345-5566 or
